Medellin is Colombia’s most innovative city. When in Medellin, you need to visit Explora, one of Latin America’s biggest science and technology parks. Spend a nice afternoon at the spectacular Butterfly House or breathe some fresh air at the city’s Botanical Garden. Plus, Downtown Medellin is one of the country’s most important cultural hubs. Stroll through La Pascasia, a space displaying traveling exhibitions, where you will certainly discover something new every time you visit. Be captivated by 23 famous Botero statues at the eponymous square paying homage to this Medellin-born artist. You may enjoy all these spaces for free and take as many pictures as you want. MAPS Parque Botero A tip for those traveling #WingoMode: Medellin provides easy and inexpensive subway transportation. If you are visiting the Botero Square, you need to get off at the Parque Berrío stop. :)
If you want to enjoy Medellin from a different perspective, the best you can do is getting in the Metrocable. Take a trip on the different metro lines and discover Medellin’s contrasting reality. Get a breath of fresh air at Arví Park… getting there is super easy. At the nearest Metro station take the route to Acevedo and get on Metrocable line K until you reach Santo Domingo, finally make a transfer to Cable Arví. MAPS Arví. There’s no doubt that the comunas are one of Medellin’s most important attractions. These informal settlements are cultural epicenters that tell the story of the city and have become cradles of art and peace. Visit Comuna 13 and get inspired by its colorful graffiti and its brave residents. The best way to visit the comunas is joining a guided tour or getting an insider on board, so you don’t miss anything while you visit this amazing part of the city.
The Parque Lleras district is one of the most modern and vibrant areas of Medellin. There you will find the trendiest bars, restaurants, nightclubs and entertainment spots in the city. You have many options to choose from or you can just have a good time sitting at the park square. Although these places open on weekdays, if you are up for partying until dawn, we suggest you visit Parque Lleras from Thursday to Saturday. Enjoy some fine cocktails and get to live the best that Medellin nights have to offer.
If you like running and are always game for outdoors activities, Medellin offers some amazing places to unleash your lifestyle. Go for a jog at Parque Lineal Ciudad del Río or climb the Nutibara mountain, where you can also work out and visit the Paisa Village –a miniature replica of the traditional haciendas found in this region. MAPS Cerro Nutibara. Paisas love working out, so you will find a plethora of outdoor gyms all across the city.
You will certainly have a hard time fighting temptation to try Medellin’s food. Start your day with a traditional paisa breakfast, made up of arepas, hot chocolate and yummy cheese. For lunch, how about the famous bandeja paisa? A one-of-a-kind meal that incudes rice, beans, ground beef, plantain slices, pork rinds, avocado, arepa, egg, chorizo and morcilla! And, if you still have room for something else, taste the amazing mondongo soup. Have no remorse and feel more paisa than arepa itself :D
